From the ol’ Insta. Another pretty fortunate weekend of moving forward. Put together the second insert for the sculpture, it was too wide for the CNC machine to be cut out of one piece. Then applied the super classy Rust-Oleum finish :-) It’s all about what works. The piece is still have to be assembled, but that by now should be the relatively easy part. The challenge for the next few weeks will be all LEDs. Thanks again to everyone @upside_sf for all the great things they make possible. :-) #sculpture #burningmanart #diy
From the ol’ Insta. Test assembly complete! And welded where needed for (hopefully) easy installation and deinstallation from the playa. Still need to paint the inserts, and carve one, but the physical parts are basically set to go. Next up: power, LEDs, and LED programming. #sculpture #weekendwarrior #burningmanart
From the ol’ Insta. 3/4ths of the way to having the inserts carved :-) so far so great :-) #sculpture #burningmanart
From the ol’ Insta. CNC carving for the next physical parts of the sculpture! So stoked! It’s literally physically coming together! Thanks to so helpful Ryan and everyone @upside_sf ! #sculpture #burningmanart
From the ol’ Insta. In brief non-sculpture news, I know I got my rabbit R1 in the mail. For those who don’t know about it, it’s a device intended to be an AI assistant. And at this point, it’s a toy. :-) they’re building it from the ground up, very limited access to other services as they roll it out. But it’s neat. And his future potential is pretty grand. An assistant that could, say, automatically upload to several different social media outlets could unscrew up a lot of screwed up interfaces and workflows. As only one example. Also it came with a free year’s subscription to Perplexity AI, that I’m actually using everyday. It’s shockingly better than using Google search, or even DuckDuckGo. And unlike Google search, I don’t immediately get drowned in a delusion products related to something I was searching for on a whim. #ai #future #robotoverlords
From the ol’ Insta. Victory :) Moving forward step by step through leaning to work with LEDs, as the next phase of the sculpture. So from large metal work of wings to small metalwork of soldering wires. :) Also estimating power usage to see what battery support will be needed for the playa and elsewhere. Still to do: CNC carving and painting the figures, and assembling the sculpture. Sometimes progress is asynchronous. Always it’s great to learn and do. Thanks to Sri @upside_sf for info and feedback. #sculpture #burningmanart #pixelblaze #ledlights #doit
From the ol’ Insta. Solo work today. Final polishing and putting on clearcoat. I decided not to paint it any other color, it just looked so great in shiny steel. It’s definitely not thankless work. I’m thankful. It’s all looking so great, as a foundation for further stuff yet to come for the peace. I’m so grateful for all the people who are helping me along. #burningmanart #welding #sculpture
From the ol’ Insta. Initial fabrication fricking complete!! … For the wings :-) … Mostly :-) Next steps for the wings are grinding down the welds, cleaning them up a bitz and painting. Then the CNC pieces, and then the assembly. … And then the LEDs and the programming :-) But all moving forward. Thanks again to Mark, and Katie @cirkatieanrhythms , and @upside_sf for hosting. #sculpture #burningmanart #memorialdayweekend #making
From the ol’ Insta. An afternoon working further in Illustrator, then getting to chill with the amazing Tricycle Soundsystem @gvdbgvdb #sunday #doityourself
From the ol’ Insta. Looking ahead to the next phase of producing sculpture, getting all the way into the details for the faces of the figures. These will be CNC machine-carved based on vector files, which I’m making in Illustrator. I’m currently going through and adjusting points as needed. Some details are more noticeable when they’re not done, and all further things are put on them as a foundation. #adobeillustrator #sculpture #burningmanart
